Possessive Forms with Family Words

In this lesson, you will learn how possession is used with family vocabulary.

Family words usually use possessive endings

The words for father, mother, brother, sister, aunt, and uncle are normally used with a possessive ending — for example, people usually say my father, his mother, or your brother, rather than using these words alone.

The words for brother, sister, aunt, and uncle take the regular possessive endings. The words for father and mother have some irregular forms.

Father
