Darija Academy is the world’s first online academy built exclusively for Moroccan families abroad and anyone who wants to connect with Moroccan language and culture. We offer private 1-on-1 live lessons in Moroccan Darija, Arabic, and Quran — taught by certified native Moroccan teachers, from anywhere in the world.
We serve a wide range of learners: Moroccan parents raising children abroad, second-generation Moroccans reconnecting with their roots, non-Moroccan partners learning to speak with family, expats living in Morocco, tourists preparing for travel, new Muslims, and anyone drawn to Moroccan culture. We welcome Muslims and non-Muslims, children and adults, from all backgrounds.
No. Darija Academy is fully inclusive and welcoming to everyone — Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Whether you’re learning Darija for family, travel, culture, or curiosity, you are warmly welcome. Our Quran lessons are of course intended for Muslims, but our Darija and Arabic lessons are open to all.
Moroccan Darija is the everyday spoken dialect used by over 36 million Moroccans. It is different from Modern Standard Arabic and blends Arabic, Amazigh (Berber), French, and Spanish influences. It’s the language Moroccan families speak at home, on calls, and in the streets — and it’s what our most popular course teaches.
We currently serve students from over 40 countries across Europe, North America, the Middle East, Australia, and beyond. All lessons are 100% online, so wherever you are in the world, you can join.
Our tutors teach in English, French, Arabic, Russian, and German — whichever language you feel most comfortable learning in. You choose when you book your first lesson.
Absolutely not. You can start from complete zero. Your teacher will assess your level in the first lesson and build a personalised learning plan based entirely on your goals and pace. Whether you’ve never heard a word of Darija or Arabic, or you already have some foundation, we have the right path for you.
Most language platforms offer pre-recorded videos or group classes. Darija Academy offers only live, private 1-on-1 lessons with certified native Moroccan teachers. There are no recordings, no groups, and no generic curricula — every lesson is personalised to you. We are also the only academy that combines Moroccan Darija, Arabic, and Quran under one roof, specifically built for Moroccan families and their connections worldwide.
We offer three main subjects: Moroccan Darija (beginner to advanced), Arabic (Modern Standard Arabic and conversational), and Quran (recitation with Tajweed, memorisation, and Quran for women and girls with female tutors). All are taught in private 1-on-1 lessons. We also offer Kids Lessons and Family Plans for households with multiple learners.
Yes. Many of our students — especially Moroccan families — study more than one subject simultaneously with different teachers. Our Family Plans are specifically designed to allow multiple family members to study multiple subjects under a single account.
No. Moroccan Darija is a spoken dialect and is taught completely independently. You do not need any knowledge of Modern Standard Arabic, Fusha, or any other Arabic variety to begin Darija lessons. Your teacher starts from where you are.
Tajweed is the set of rules governing the correct pronunciation and recitation of the Quran. Learning Tajweed ensures you recite exactly as the Quran was revealed, with proper elongation, stops, and sounds. Our Quran teachers hold verified chains of authority (isnads) from Al-Azhar-credentialed scholars, ensuring the highest standard of teaching.
Yes. We offer Quran memorisation (Hifz) lessons for children and adults. Your teacher will design a structured memorisation plan based on your schedule and goals. This can be taken alongside Tajweed lessons or independently.
Yes. We offer a dedicated programme for women and girls taught exclusively by certified female tutors. This covers Quran with Tajweed, Arabic, and Islamic studies in a private, respectful, and comfortable environment. You can specifically request a female teacher when booking.
We teach all levels — from complete beginner to advanced. Your teacher will assess your level in the first session and design a programme that matches your current knowledge and pushes you forward at the right pace.
Standard lessons are 50 minutes. Our Quick Start trial lesson is 25 minutes. This gives enough time for proper instruction, practice, and review — check the Pricing page for full details on every plan.
We recommend a minimum of 2 lessons per week for steady progress. However, you can schedule as many or as few as you like depending on your plan. Consistency is the most important factor — even 1 lesson per week produces real results over time.
Yes. You pick the days and times that work for you and your teacher. Lessons are available 7 days a week across multiple timezones to accommodate students in Europe, North America, the Middle East, and beyond.
Lessons are conducted over Zoom, Google Meet, or Skype — whichever you prefer. All you need is a device with a camera, microphone, and stable internet connection. No special software or equipment is required.
Your first lesson is an introduction and assessment. Your teacher will get to know you, understand your goals, assess your current level, and create a personalised learning plan. It’s relaxed and informal — there’s no pressure and no test.
Yes. Lessons can be rescheduled or cancelled with at least 24 hours’ notice. Please contact your teacher or reach us at support@darijaacademy.com to make changes. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice may result in the lesson being counted as used.
Yes. Your teacher provides personalised materials, notes, and practice exercises tailored to your level and goals. These are shared digitally after each lesson. All materials are included in your lesson fee — there are no extra costs for resources.
Pricing depends on the plan you choose — individual lessons, monthly packages, or family plans. Visit our Pricing page for full, up-to-date details on all plans. There are no hidden fees.
Yes. Our Family Plans are designed for households with multiple learners. When multiple family members enrol under a single account, the cost per person is significantly lower than individual plans. See the Family Plans page for full details.
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) via Stripe, our secure payment processor, in Euro (€). If you need help with payment, contact us at support@darijaacademy.com.
Our Quick Start (€10, 25 minutes) and Full Trial (€15, 50 minutes) are low-cost paid lessons rather than free sessions — this lets us match you with the right tutor and give you a real, complete first lesson instead of a short sales call. You can book either one directly from the Pricing page.
Because our lessons are private and reserved specifically for you, payments are generally non-refundable once a lesson has taken place. If something goes wrong on our side — a technical failure or a tutor no-show — contact us within 48 hours and we will offer a free replacement lesson or, where appropriate, a refund. Unused lessons within an active plan aren’t refunded for change of mind, but we’ll always help you reschedule them within your plan’s validity window. See our full Terms and Conditions for details.
This depends on your plan. Monthly plans generally require lessons to be used within the billing period. Contact us if you have an exceptional circumstance — we handle these on a case-by-case basis and always aim to be fair and flexible.
All our teachers are certified native Moroccan speakers with formal teaching qualifications. Our Quran teachers hold Al-Azhar credentials and verified chains of authority. Every teacher is vetted, interviewed, and tested before joining the academy — only the best are selected.
Yes. We have certified female tutors available for all subjects. Simply request a female teacher when you contact us or book your lesson and we will match you accordingly. Privacy and comfort are our priority.
Yes, absolutely. If after a few lessons you feel another teacher would be a better match for your learning style or goals, simply let us know at support@darijaacademy.com and we will arrange a change at no extra cost.
Yes. Our Quran teachers are certified with a verified isnad (chain of transmission) connecting back to the Prophet ﷺ through recognised Al-Azhar scholars. This means the Quran recitation you learn is authentic, precise, and transmitted correctly.
Yes! We are always looking for talented, certified native teachers. Visit our Join Our Team page to apply. We look for teachers who are native Moroccan speakers, formally qualified, patient, warm, and passionate about language and education.
Children can start from age 4. Our teachers are experienced in working with young learners and use age-appropriate methods — including songs, games, visual aids, and storytelling — to make learning engaging and fun. We also teach teens and young adults with methods tailored to their level.
Yes. Many Moroccan families enrol their children in two or three subjects simultaneously. Our Family Plans make this practical and affordable. Each subject has its own teacher and dedicated lesson time, so children can progress in all three without confusion.
Yes. All lessons are private 1-on-1 sessions with a verified, vetted teacher. Parents are welcome to be present during lessons, especially for younger children. We take child safety very seriously and all our teachers go through background verification before joining the academy.
This is exactly who we were built for. Many of our youngest students are children born in Europe, North America, or elsewhere who have had limited exposure to Darija. Our teachers are experienced in connecting with heritage learners — children who have the cultural background but not yet the language. We start from the very beginning and make it feel natural and fun.
A Family Plan gives all members of your household access to private lessons under one account. Each family member gets their own teacher and their own personalised lesson schedule. Plans cover up to 4 family members. You get a shared account, a shared calendar, and priority teacher scheduling. See the Family Plans page for full details.
You need a laptop, tablet, or smartphone with a working camera and microphone, and a stable internet connection. No special software is needed beyond Zoom, Google Meet, or Skype — all free to download. A quiet space with good lighting will make your lesson much more effective.
If your connection drops during a lesson, your teacher will wait for you to reconnect. If the disruption significantly affects the lesson, it will be rescheduled or the remaining time will be added to your next session. Just contact us at support@darijaacademy.com and we’ll sort it out.
We operate across all timezones — from GMT-8 (Pacific US) to GMT+12 (Pacific Asia). Our teachers are based in different countries and cover morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend slots. When you book, you’ll choose a time that fits your timezone.
Simply visit our Contact page or click the “Book a Lesson” button at the top of any page. Tell us which subject you want, your preferred language of instruction, and any scheduling preferences. We’ll match you with the right teacher and confirm your first lesson within 24 hours.
You can reach us by email at support@darijaacademy.com, via WhatsApp at +43 67 060 78 060, or through the Contact page on our website. We typically respond within a few hours during working days.
