In this lesson, you will learn how to make a verb negative in Darija.

The normal negative form

To say did not, do not, does not, Darija uses two parts around the verb: ma- + verb + -š.

šrbna — we drank  ·  ma-šrbna-š — we did not drink

The prefix ma- comes before the verb, and the suffix -š comes after it.

Exercise: put the verbs in the negative form

Conjugate the verbs in parentheses correctly and make them negative:

• huwa (safr) s-simana lli fatt.
• l-barн f l-lil (qra) l-ktab dyali нit knt 3iyan.
• hiya (gls) m3ana нit (sala) l-xdma dyalha.
• нna (n3s) bkri нit (t3šša) bkri.
• Kari (lbs) l-kswa j-jdida f l-нfla нit (kan) 3ndha l-wqt.
• mlli ja l l-mġrib (ṣifṭ) bra l l-walidin dyalu.
• kant l-brd u ana (нll) s-srajm.
