LESSON 72Irregular Present-Tense Verbs — “a” Changes to “i”
Lesson objective
In this lesson, you will learn the second category of irregular verbs with a long a in the middle. In this category, the middle a changes to a long i, and the normal present-tense prefixes and suffixes are added.
Example verb: “to bring” (jab)

Verbs that follow the same pattern
- zad — to add / increase
- ġab — to be absent
- ṭab — to be cooked
- dar — to do / make
- ṭaн — to fall
- ṭar — to fly
- sal — to leak
- faq — to wake up
- ba3 — to sell
- qas — to touch
- taq — to trust
Examples
Hassan kay-bi3 l-xoḍra f s-suq. — Hassan sells / is selling vegetables in the market.
ma-kan-fiq-š bkri nhar l-нdd. — I do not wake up early on Sundays.
šnu kat-dir nhar s-sbt? — What do you do on Saturdays?

Describe activities in pictures using: šnu kay-dir? (what is he doing?), šnu kat-dir? (what is she doing?), šnu kay-diru? (what are they doing?)
