Travelling Between Cities by Bus

CTM buses

The textbook describes CTM as a national bus company that is comfortable, normally on schedule, offers reserved seats, and allows tickets to be purchased in advance in many places. Unaccompanied luggage may also be sent through CTM.

Souk buses

Large towns normally have a bus station. A ticket may sometimes be purchased one day in advance, and fares are fixed. Depending on the bus, the ticket may reserve a seat, passengers may take any available seat, or additional seating may be placed in the aisle.

When luggage is placed on top of the bus, the luggage price may need to be negotiated — the amount depends on the size of the luggage. It may be easier to carry smaller luggage that can remain inside the bus.

Souk buses may leave late, arrive late, stop between towns, or stop in other towns to look for more passengers.
