Moroccan Cultural Note

Moroccan communication often uses reassurance to preserve warmth and social harmony. maši muškil and ma-kayn muškil are extremely common. Tone matters: for a serious mistake, a fuller apology and practical action may still be necessary. Saying “no problem” does not always mean the issue should be ignored.

Common Learner Mistakes

  • Do not use maši muškil to dismiss someone’s serious concern without listening.
  • maši muškil and ma-kayn muškil are similar, but the structure is different.
  • smн li is used to apologize or say excuse me. The response can be maši muškil, 3adi or smaнt lik.
  • Use ma-tqllq-š with a supportive tone; it means do not worry.
