LESSON 32Dual Noun Forms
What is the dual form?
English nouns normally have a singular form and a plural form. Some Darija nouns also have a dual form. The dual form already contains the meaning of two, so juj is not used with these nouns.
The dual form is usually made by adding -ayn to the singular noun.
Examples
| English | Singular | Two (dual) |
|---|---|---|
| Day | yum | yumayn |
| Month | šhr | šhrayn |
| Year | 3am | 3amayn |
Nouns without a special dual form
Some nouns use juj with their plural form instead:
juj d s-simanat — two weeks · juj dqayq — two minutes
