The plural alaf is used with the short forms of the numbers from 3 to 10. After ten thousand, the singular form alf is used again.

Exact thousands with nouns

Exact multiples of one thousand can be combined with nouns in two ways:

Structure 1 (number + singular noun): xms alaf wld — five thousand boys

Structure 2 (number + d + plural noun with the definite article): xms alaf d l-wlad — five thousand boys

For numbers larger than one thousand that are not exact thousands, use the rule that matches the final digits.
