LESSON 38

Ordinal Numbers

What are ordinal numbers?

Ordinal numbers show position or order — examples in English are first, second, third, fourth.

For the numbers from 1 to 12, Darija uses special ordinal forms. From 13 onward, there is no difference between the cardinal and ordinal number.

Gender and number agreement

Ordinal numbers act like adjectives — they must agree with the noun in gender and number. The listed basic forms are masculine singular.

Make the feminine by adding -a, and the plural by adding -in.
