Part 1: Asking for a jellaba
Michael: s-salamu 3alaykum.
Clothing seller: wa 3alaykum s-salam.
Michael: bġit jllaba 3afak!
Clothing seller: mujud a sidi, ašmn nmra?
Michael: ma-n-3rf.
Clothing seller: qiys hadi. Ah, jat m3ak!
Michael: kayna ġir f had l-lun?
English meaning: Michael asks for a jellaba. The seller has one available and asks his size, which Michael doesn’t know. He tries one on and it fits, but Michael asks whether it comes in other colours.
Part 2: Asking about colours and price
Seller: kayna f l-byḍ, ṣ-ṣfr u l-kнl.
Michael: ara n-šuf l-byḍ 3afak.
Seller: hak a sidi.
Michael: bšнal had š-ši?
Seller: hadi a sidi b 8000 ryal.
Michael: ġaliya bzzaf, ġadi n-3ṭik ġir 3000 ryal.
Seller: lla, nqṣti bzzaf. xudha b 6000.
Michael: lla, bzzaf. bslama.
Seller: aji, aji, 3ṭini ġir 5000 ryal.
Michael: ġadi n-3ṭik 3500 ryal. bġiti mzyan, ma-bġiti-š, lla y-shl.
Seller: ara a sidi, 3500 ryal. ši bas ma-kayn.
English meaning: It’s available in white, yellow, and black. Michael asks to see the white one, priced at 8,000 riyals. He offers 3,000, the seller counters at 6,000, Michael walks away, the seller calls him back and drops to 5,000, and they finally settle at 3,500 riyals.
