LESSON 142Transportation Within Cities
Petit taxis
Each city has petit taxis. A petit taxi can carry up to three passengers, and the fare is calculated by a meter. When entering, ask the driver to turn on the meter; when the meter is missing or not working, agree on the price before travelling.
The driver may pick up other passengers when fewer than three seats are occupied. According to the textbook, the night fare is normally fifty percent higher than the daytime fare.
Chariots
In small villages, chariots may transport people to the weekly market, to towns on a main road, or to places where larger transportation is available.
