The Preposition “f”

The preposition f can mean in, at, about, or on.

Verbs commonly used with “f”

suwl f (to ask about), fkkr f (to think about), hḍr f (to talk about a person), šark f (to participate in), thlla f (to take care of), taq f (to trust)

Examples

suwlt fik l-barн, welakin ma-lqitk-š. — I came to ask about you yesterday, but I did not find you.

tqna fih, u ġdr bina. — We trusted him, but he betrayed us.

thlla f rask. — Take care of yourself.

Using “f” to express a condition

With pronoun endings, f can sometimes have a meaning similar to “to be.”

fiya j-ju3. — I am hungry.
fiya l-3ṭš. — I am thirsty.
fih s-sxana. — He has a fever.

It can also express that something contains something.

had ḍ-ḍar fiha xmsa d l-byut. — This house has five rooms.
