Situation: John is sitting in a café reading a magazine. Other people are watching television. One person begins asking John questions about war and politics.

Citizen: welakin kat-gulu 3ndkum l-нuriya u d-dimuqraṭiya.
John: had š-ši bṣṣн, welakin ana ġir mirikani 3adi mn š-š3b.
Citizen: kulkum bнal bнal. kat-bġiu l-нrb. f mirikan ktr mn 50% d n-nas m3a l-нrb. нtta nta mnhum.

Citizen: kifaš ġadi n-3rfu?

Citizen: ma-n-3rf, welakin mirikan xṣṣha t-wqqf l-qtila dyal n-nas.
John: mttafq m3ak.
English meaning: A citizen presses John, an American, to explain his country’s stance on war, assuming he supports it. John calmly clarifies he is just an ordinary citizen who personally opposes the war, and the conversation ends with both agreeing that killing should stop, even though John can’t fully satisfy the man’s suspicion. Afterward, others in the café keep discussing the topic and watching John, who pays and leaves.
