Type 1 Conditional — Possible Conditions

In this lesson, you will learn how to talk about a possible future result.

The word ila means if. This type of conditional sentence normally uses the simple past after ila, and the future tense in the result. Sometimes the result is an imperative command.

Examples

ila ja ġdda, gul lih y-3iyṭ liya. — If he comes tomorrow, tell him to call me.

ila ma-jit-š f l-wqt, sir. — If I do not arrive on time, go without me.

ila šftu, ġadi n-gulha lih. — If I see him, I will tell him.

ila kmmlat l-xdma f l-wqt, ġadi n-3ṭiuha l-flus. — If she finishes the work on time, we will give her some money.

ila ṭlbtiha mnha, ġadi t-3ṭiha lik. — If you ask her for it, she will give it to you.

The word ġadi may sometimes be omitted when the future meaning is clear.

ila mšiti l l-bosṭa, jib liya juj tnabr. — If you go to the post office, bring me two stamps.
