LESSON 221Using the Past Progressive for “Used To”
The same structure can also mean used to. The context shows whether the sentence means an action happening at a particular past moment, or a repeated past habit.

knt kan-bi3 ṭ-ṭumubilat. — I used to sell cars.
knt kan-safr bzzaf. — I used to travel a lot.
mlli knt f ṣ-ṣwira, knt kan-akul l-нut kul nhar. — When I was in Essaouira, I used to eat fish every day.
knt kan-tfrrj f t-tlfaza mlli dqq ši waнd f l-bab. — I was watching television when someone knocked at the door.
knt kan-xdm f had l-mdrasa. — I used to work in this school.
knt kan-jri kul ṣbaн. — I used to run every morning.
knt kan-kmi bzzaf, welakin ma-bqit-š kan-kmi. — I used to smoke a lot, but I no longer smoke.
